finale

So this is the last post for this blog.. I somewhat feel that this subject is not as stressful as the other subject *cough*media innovation design 3*cough* Building a model is quite fun but unfortunately I don't have the strength to cut out the model board as the way I want it to be for example, I tried so many times to cut out the Alamanda logo but i failed. The hardest thing I had to do for this subject is to crack my brain, thinking what to post in this blog. I have no idea what am I going to post every single week:))
Anyway, I might consider of choosing exibition booth design as my major for my fyp but there's still a lot of things I need to learn as I still couldn't draw a proper side view and front view out of the top view of my sketches.

In conclusion, I have learned something new from this class. From how to use a T square to those different views; facade, 3/4, artist impression. I promise to be extra careful with the 3/4 view:p

bob the builder

If you ask me what toy do I like the most as a child, I would say Lego! I'm a girl but I never liked Barbie or any other girlie toys. With Lego bricks, you can create anything you want; from a toy gun, to a mini building. It helps to broaden your imagination and testing your creativity as you are creating something out of those little bricks. Nowadays, there a many Lego inspired stuff were sold in the market such as pendrives, wrist watch, lunch boxes, usb port, earphones, etc. As far as I remembered, back then Lego bricks were only available in one size which is only with the 6 tubes... I mean this size..
classic!

egg shell arts

Egg is not just nutritious. The shells can be used creatively in many ways. I still remember when I was a child, my mum would always gave me those empty egg shells so that I can paint or draw something on it:) As we can see here, these artists had created some amazing artwork out of the empty eggshells.

With just a little imagination, the egg shell turned into an air ship!

sisyphus effect

Imprisoned in the ancient Greek underworld as punishment for his earthly crimes, Sisyphus was famously tortured by a never-ending task. He was condemned to roll a huge rock up a hill – only to watch it roll back down and have to start all over again.

The ‘Sisyphus effect’ is the result of endless to-do lists, which in turn are created by a constant stream of incoming demands. We start the day full of enthusiasm, but by the end of it, we’ve taken on so many new commitments that the to-do list is longer than when we started.

As a design student, this does sound familiar to me. Especially when it is a groupwork where I have a bossy and demanding group member around. A job that is used to be a fun and exciting turned into a burden I wish I never had to carry in the first place. A simple job will become a complicated one as the same thing need to be fixed over and over again and something that I thought could be done in a few hours end up taking a longer time which interrupts the overall work plan that we had planned in the beginning.

juxtaposition

"-is the act of positioning close together or side by side"

Juxta means 'near' in Latin, so the explanation above does make sense. It's like having two subjects; placed side by side for comparison. It is about comparing and contrasting for example; city and country, young and old, hot and cold. Both of the subjects from each sentences are contradicting with each other. Here are the example of printed advertisement that applies the concept of juxtaposition.

Creativity

First of all what is creativity? Well, I would define it as a natural skill or talent that one posses to create something fresh and unique that can be distinct from others creation. Everyone can be creative. We are born creative. It's just that we lost it as we grow up. We would only do stuff others considered as normal. As an art student myself, being creative is definitely not easy. Even if I spend the whole day cracking my brain trying to get some brilliant ideas, I always end up getting nothing which causes frustration. Often I feel like giving up and quit this art industry for good. Thus, if we're determined to stay in this industry, we need to be strong and must not be afraid of failures or being criticized. It needs a lot of effort, hard work and courage.

Furthermore, being too worried; self-conscious about what others might think can be a hindrance to our creativity too. We are scared to try something new and different thinking that it might not work or others might not like it. When this happens, our creativity will be restricted and we are unable to move forward. It's like drawing a line to our creativity and we will never ever dare to walk across the line. Sooner or later, we'll go dry because the same old ideas are being used over again and again.

container as the content

In my opinion, choosing the right container is also as important as what type of content were being put into the container. It can determine how successful a message being conveyed to the audiences. I'm pretty sure this phrase is similar to the phrase coined by Marshall McLuhan which is Medium is the Message. For example if we want to advertise a brand new shampoo but we chose electronic direct mail as the container for the sake of the cost and getting the news spreading like fire in the most convenient way, will it able to convey its message to the consumers? How many percent of the consumer will actually view the email without flagging it as a spam? Isn't a tv commercial or a print ad would be more suitable as the containers instead of an edm? It is the container that will give the first impression to the audience.

murphy's law in design

Murphy's Law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong".

So I thought about my 3 years worth of experience studying graphic design in MMU. I remember how I was always prepared for the worst to come before a submission for a certain project but sometimes, things still doesn't go my way. Sometimes we are just fated to be in that sticky situation; doesn't matter what are the causes. Once, my computer was accidentally "killed" by my group mate who came to do our group work at my place. At that time, I thought to myself. Out of all those electricity switch, why did he accidentally shut off mine? I wonder why... Why did it happened to me when the time I have to finish up my work for submission... When they are possibilities that something can go wrong, it might go wrong, depending on your luck=\

creative advertising

A creative advertisement is an advertisement that is not just memorable but having its' message being successfully delivered to their audience. On top of that, it has the ability to make the audience to look twice while admiring the brilliant idea of the advertiser in conveying their message.

A road safety campaign called Puppy Love done by DDB Mudra advertising agency in India.

McDonalds free coffee

Steel Bed: A sleeping bag ad for Karana Travelgear. By using Karana sleeping bag, you can sleep anywhere comfortably just like your bed at home:)

A billboard that needs no further explanation.

classic games vs modern games

I would choose classic games.. Even now I still enjoy playing classic arcade games and have a very little interest in newer games that are released all year long. The game user interface designs might be poorly done (pixelated UI, etc) due to limited knowledge of technology during those days but the games that are produced can be considerably good. I don't know why but I personally prefer 2D games rather than 3D games. I wouldn't play the 3D version of Super Mario even though Mario is in my all time favorite game list as I feel that it butchered the game. If the game is originally created in 3D.. I think that is fine..

Same goes to Bomberman. I played the 3D version once and I hated it because it gave me a different feeling. An awful feeling perhaps. Nothing beats the original.

Duck Tales Quest! This game is real classic. I still remember the MIDIs that are used in this game. Nowadays no one uses MIDI in their games anymore. The music used are composed by professional musicians.

If I'm not mistaken, this game marked the start of 3D games craze; Final Fantasy VII. I remember watching my brothers playing it and always thought it look funny because their body looks "boxy":P The characters are created in low poly model so that it won't lag that much which will frustrate gamers... Even their texturing is not that good.

And so 3D games UI design gets better and better..
Star Craft

The Sims

Assassin Creed 2

It look so real that you wouldn't believe that it is actually made from polygons that are carefully modeled, rigged, textured... You can also now play it online teamed up or against other gamers.. Nothing can stop the evolution of technology right?

packaging designs

The reason I chose this majoring is because i like to look at nice/creative/unique product packagings. The task of creating a whole bunch of packagings for a product line somehow excites me. Packaging is very important as it has the ability to attract buyers attention. We know that people tend to judge a book by its cover. No one can deny that:p

very straightforward:)) but not sure how are they going to drink it..

An apple a day will keep the doctor away. Nice color scheme<3

I'm surprised that these packagings are actually from Tesco.

Maybe because I always thought their packagings look like this.. so plain and unattractive. That's the reason why they can sell it cheaper than other brands..

Even though oats doesn't taste good, these packagings can make your mouth water:P The images of the main ingredients are used for the packaging.

After looking at those packagings, I feel that I still have a long way to go as none of my work can be comparable to theirs... Their packagings may look clean and simple but it's just so powerful; something that I don't think I can come out with. I should keep the K.I.S.S formula in my head=\

Doodle Dee Doodle Dum

I think doodle art is really interesting. Doodling on a piece of paper.. (or on the table x_x); It is something that we usually do whenever we feel bored no matter whether we're in class/in a meeting/during talks or even during exam! It can show our emotions or whatever we had in our mind at that time.

A crazily detailed doodle. The result is amazing even though he played only with lines. He must be really bored._.

But I prefer character doodles!:D It's adorable and we sometimes indirectly created our own character through our imagination.

Sleepy mode...

Doodle art that had turned into one's company identity. Even the walls in their building is filled with doodles!

Their stationary.

Doodle art might look simple and most people might think that anyone could do it since it is an impromptu drawing but it is harder than it looks... Only people with artistic skills can create a nicely well composed doodles:P

caterior

My dream house! I would love to own this kind of house. The interior is specially designed for cat lovers who are concerned about their pets' safety; their cats could have all the fun staying indoor without having the risk of being exposed to all kind of danger outdoor. Besides that the interior design looks so cozy and nice so I wouldn't mind staying in this type of house with a whole bunch of cats!

Cats are also naturally curious creature therefore it's great if we could provide them extra little place for them to explore and also places for them to hide. Plus they adore high places so that they can monitor their "kingdom" to ensure there are no threats invading their "kingdom". Furthermore this type of house is not only built with all those fancy features for cats but the materials used are pet-friendly materials which is harmless to pets and also resistant to scratches.

Not really liking the colors I prefer the previous one:))

The designers of these houses definitely did a good job on researching and I'm sure they are cat person too as they can understand cats' behavior so well and integrate it into their design.
